#LPTG52 Week 20 Theme

I know, I know… I’m really late posting this! It should have been up on Monday but it’s been crazy around here! Getting gear out to our customers on time is the most important thing for us, so that had to take priority over this photo, I’m sure you all can understand! :)

Anyway, this weeks theme is “Jump” and it’s pretty self-explanatory… just JUMP! You can jump, a friend, a pet, if you can get a complete stranger to jump for you that would be awesome too! I personally like to challenge our buddy LPTG Man to see what kind of ridiculous pose he can give me when I do a casting call here in the office, and he usually wins! This week is no exception, our jumping LPTG Man shot was not only fun to take, but it is a RIOT to look at! LPTG Man is so passionate about, um, jumping, that I had a couple of these to choose from but he demanded I use this shot, and who can blame him, it’s insane! What do you think?! Taken with Canon 5D3, 14mm 2.8L, and 3 600EX-RT’s. The on-camera speedlite was set to only trigger the speedlites on either end of the hall.

Yosemite Astro Tilt Shift With Shawn Reeder

I just got home from an amazing 2 weeks on the road, spending time in Big Sur, San Francisco, and Yosemite. It was a very interesting trip for me to go back to Yosemite for the first time since I released my time-lapse piece, Yosemite Range of Light. All my trips there over the last almost 2 years have been focused on shooting time-lapse.

After completing my project, I was able to enjoy Yosemite in a completely different way on this most recent trip. I got back to my roots and decided to just focus on photography. It was very exciting and freeing to be able to be out shooting and go to lots of different locations and take lots of different compositions, rather than focus on finding one shot per day as is what normally happens with time-lapse.

I had some Tilt Shift lenses from LensProToGo with me, which I greatly enjoy playing with. Tilt Shift photography is very unique, and can be very challenging; so of course this inspired me as I always love to challenge myself and find unique ways to see our beautiful world.

I had never tired to integrate Tilt Shift photography with my nighttime shooting, because in the past I had always needed faster lenses to shoot at night. Since I got a 5D Mark III, one of the first things I was excited about was trying to shoot some Tilt Shift images at night with the new high iso capabilities.

Now shooting Tilt Shift at night is no easy task, as focusing and composition at night is already hard enough and an art in its own right. This was greatly compounded by trying to get a very specific area in focus with such a narrow plane of focus, while getting just the composition I wanted as well. So it took me countless shots and fiddling to find just the right composition and get the focus exactly where I wanted it.

I only got one shot in a whole night of shooting that I love, but I really love it and appreciate it so much after the hundreds of attempts that didn’t work. I hope you enjoy it as well.

#LPTG52 Week 18 Wrap Up

The week 18 theme was “Shadows” and I’ll admit, it wasn’t easy! I’m very happy with my photo of LPTG Man’s shadow, but it definitely took a few tries to get the shadow nice and crisp along the edges, it was worth the effort. I can tell you all put the same effort into your photos, they are great! I knew you all would do great with this theme though, no matter what we throw at you the results are always fantastic! The week 19 theme is “Shoes” and you are encouraged to run (get it?) wild with this one! Do you have crazy shoes in your closet, or that you wear every day, that you want to showcase? How are you going to approach it? Like a fashion shoot? Out in the urban jungle? Maybe your shoes are slippers? Construction boots? Flip flops? Whatever you wear on your feet!

Or in Meg’s case, pointe shoes! You knew she was our office ballerina, right?

I wish I could say she always wore these around the office, but I’d be lying! I just took this photo at Meg’s desk since she’s so busy today, thanks Meg for helping me out!

I shot this photo using a Canon 5D Mark III, 35mm 1.4L, and a Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite.

Mindcastle Takes Home An Emmy!

We are very fortunate to have extremely talented ViewFinder’s! Our friends Casey Warren and Danielle Krieger together make up Mindcastle, they took home an Emmy this week for Outstanding Edited Sports Series/Anthology for MLB/Showtime’s The Franchise –A Season with the San Francisco Giants!

Casey and Danielle reflected back on 2011 on their blog when they first heard about their three Emmy nominations and, in part, had this to say:

Hands down, my favorite memories from this year are all the collaborations with the amazing producers – editors – & cinematographers that we’ve worked with. Emmy win or not, Danielle and I are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be nominated and we cant wait for what the rest of 2012 has to offer!

Casey and Danielle are currently hard at work on season two of The Franchise, featuring the Miami Marlins, which will premiere in July on Showtime. They literally haven’t had any time to get us higher quality images from The Emmy’s because they had to leave first thing the following morning to get back to work, solid proof that it’s hard work to get an Emmy!

Stillmotion Takes Home Three Emmy’s!

We are so proud of our ViewFinder, Stillmotion, who took home three Emmy’s this week! Their awards came as the result of an 8 month long project documenting the storied rivalry between the Army and Navy football teams called “A Game of Honor“. As stated by Showtime Sports:

“A GAME OF HONOR, the feature length documentary film, captures a never-before-seen look at the incomparable Division I football programs at The U.S. Military Academy at West Point and The U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. The Cadets and Midshipmen endure a much different athletic experience than any other football program in the nation. A GAME OF HONOR reveals the dedication, discipline and determination required to make the journey from military training, to an elite classroom education, and onto the football field.”

The three categories Stillmotion won are: Outstanding Promo (the trailer), Outstanding New Approaches (web series), and Best Sports Documentary. We couldn’t be more excited for them! Please head over to their blog and congratulate them and read about their experience at The Emmy’s on April 30th.

#LPTG52 Week 18 Theme

This week’s theme is “Shadows“. It can be any kind of shadow! You, your family, friends, pet, tree, rocks, whatever you think makes an interesting shadow! Just like every other week, we want you to be as creative as possible, everyone is doing a fantastic job with this project!

For my own photo this week I put a call in to LPTG Man to see if he could help, and boy did he ever! He didn’t have his cape on for this shot, it usually gets in the way while packing boxes and cleaning gear, but I assure you, it’s him! Perhaps one day he’ll reveal his true identity to all of you…

I shot this with a 5D Mark III and a 35 1.4L and two 600EX-RT’s, but only the slave was triggered and at 1/8th power. Only processing was some tone curve, busy day here at LPTG!
